Discover the key traits for building a successful web strategy team: creativity, curiosity, and consistency. Learn how these characteristics drive online success.

Do you have the right team?

Success is always dependent upon the people who execute the mission.

As small business owners, we know our employees are our most valuable asset. But here, we aren’t talking about our specific employees but the character traits that will set up a successful web strategy. I have compiled a list of three key characteristics that I believe will set up a team for success.

Creative

I hear what you are saying, but that’s not what I mean. When people hear “creative,” they immediately think of artistic or musical people. Let me tell you a little secret. Painting, drawing, and singing are learned skills (but we will talk about that later). What we are talking about here is creative problem-solving. Do your team members have the ability to think of new solutions to old problems, or do they insist on doing things the way we’ve always done them? Don’t get me wrong. New isn’t always better, but the ability to create new solutions and the discernment to know if they are better is critical for success.

Curious

Curiosity drives learning. Having a successful online strategy requires ongoing learning. Technology changes faster than we can keep up with, and the skills needed require a curious mind. Anyone can learn the necessary skills to create a successful web strategy if they are curious. Web design, SEO strategies, content strategies, and analytics can be learned. Is your team curious?

Consistent

This character trait may be the most difficult. Creativity and curiosity are “baked” into our DNA, even though we may have spent a lifetime trying to squelch them. Consistency isn’t. Even though it’s uncomfortable, it requires discipline and tenacity to continue the way forward. We need people on the team to continue to pursue the mission even when it gets hard, or we find it boring. I find it helpful to create habits that, if done daily, will contribute to the success of your mission. There really is no quick fix to successful web strategies. They require time and consistency.

Conclusion

Do you have the right team? A web strategy that invites new customers and delights existing ones requires a creative, curious, and consistent team. Do you cultivate those characteristics in your business?
