Those of us of a certain age recognize the quote used as the title of this article. It became a key marketing slogan for a particular presidential candidate from Arkansas. Like him or hate him, he was very good at marketing himself to the public, and he connected with people in a way that few other candidates have. He made people feel like he cared; he heard them, and he really felt their pain. It’s called empathy, and we could all use a little of it. Or perhaps, do a little better at exercising it.
